TOLOT heuristic / Shinonomeにおいて、 G/P galleryプロデュースによる展覧会「Hidden Sense of Japanese Photography 2 hyper-materiality on photo」を開催いたします。これは、2014年にオランダ・アムステルダムで開催されたアートフェア、Unseen Photo Fairにて企画したスペシャルエキシビション「anima on photo – Hidden sense of Japanese Photography」に次ぐものです。
港千尋、後藤繁雄の両氏がキュレーターとなり、小山泰介、横田大輔、吉田和生、川島崇志、赤石隆明、藤本涼、田中和人、滝沢広、三田健志、山崎雄策、小林健太ら11人の日本を代表する若手写真家をご紹介いたします。ぜひご高覧ください。
写真のハイパーマテリアリティ
本展は、昨今の日本現代写真において浮かびあがってきた、「センシングとマテリアライゼーション」をテーマにキュレイションするものだ。それは、現代美術における「モノ」(オブジェ)の文脈と、今、急速にデジタルによる加工やアウトプット(出力やプロジェクションなど)の多様化が進み、またフォトイメージがかつてないほど人間の環境の主要素となった進化軸との交差が、どのような「ハイパーな写真」を生み出していくかを検証しようとするものだ。
日本の戦後美術は、世界の美術史においてユニークな発展を見せた。敗戦の破壊と消失の連続の中で、西洋においては、人間の自己表現の「果て」と思われた「モノ」(オブジェ)を、逆に「可能性」ととらえ、「具体美術協会」や「もの派」を生み出した。背景の深層には、日本人の身体に内在する「アニミズム」からくる世界観と、センシングの仕方が根強くあると言ってよい。その感覚は、「モノノアワレ」の物語や、俳句、禅の庭におけるインスタレーションを生み出したものと同じである。
写真の流れの中にもこのような「アニマ」の力が一貫して流れているということを我々は、2014 年アムステルダムのUnseen Photo Fair において、『anima on photo』という展覧会のキュレイションによってプレゼンテーションした。
しかし、今回はただ「モノ」の力に注目するだけではなく、写真のデジタル化によってひきおこされた事態が、現代写真において「新たなマテリアライゼーション」を生成しつつということを指摘したいと考える。例えば、横田大輔におけるデジタル・エクトプラズムとでも言うべき『matter』シリーズ、赤石隆明の『UBRM』シリーズにおける「写真化と物化」の執拗な反復作業…。これらは単なる「抽象写真」や「写真によるキュビズムの試み」とはまるで別のものとしてとらえられなければならない。新しい事態としての「モノ写真の反乱」を我々はどのように直視し、未来への道標とするのだろうか?

This exhibition is devoted to the notions of “sensuality and materialization” so prominent in recent Japanese photography. The exhibit explores the ways that “hyperphotography” has been shaped by the intersection of various elements， from the context of contemporary art materials (“objecthood”) to the rapid development of new digital tools and media (formats， projection， etc.) even as photographic imagery enjoys unprecedented primacy in our cultural evolution. The post-war period of Japanese art witnessed a distinctive development in world art history. While the Western world regarded the rise of the objet as the end of self-expression， Japanese artists on the other side of the world，amidst the cycles of destruction and loss of WW2， began to see new potential in material objects， giving rise to art collectives like the Gutai Group and Mono-ha. This roots of phenomenon can be attributed to a Japanese worldview based in “animism，” and a deeply-rooted sensuality. These are roots shared with the appreciation of “effervescence” in literature， haiku， and Zen gardening.
At the Unseen Photo Fair 2014， in Amsterdam， we curated an exhibition which was meant to pose the hypothesis that photography always evolves alongside an accompanying sense of “anima.” In our exhibition today， however， we would like to extend our focus from the power of the objet to all the phenomenon engendered by photography’s progressive digitization， and the resulting “new forms of objecthood.”
Examples of this include the “matter” series by Daisuke Yokota， best described as a “digital ectoplasm，” the relentlessly iterative works of “photographic processing” in Takaaki Akashi’s “UBRM” series， to name two. This is entirely different than an exhibition of “abstract photography” or “photographic Cubism.”
This collection of photos question our very ability to look these new phenomenon in the eye， and asks us whether this “photography of materialization” can provide a path into the future.
Chihiro Minato + Shigeo Goto
小山泰介 Taisuke KOYAMA
1978年、東京生まれ。都市や人間の活動を、拡張した自然環境としてとらえ事物の変化や現象の断片にクローズアップした作品を制作。主な展覧会に「Rainbow Waves」(G/P Gallery、東京、2013)、「Rainbow Variation & Other Works」(Metrnom、イタリア、2013)、「瀬戸内国際芸術祭2013」(小豆島、2013)、「テグフォトビエンナーレ 2012 Photography is Magic!」(韓国、2013)など多数。主な写真集に『COLLECTED PHENOMENA / WORKS: 2006-2013』、『DOTS， FUNGUS， CRYSTALS & MOONLIGHT』、『Melting Rainbows 』、『entropix』。2012年「第15回文化庁メディア芸術祭 審査員推薦作品」受賞。
Taisuke Koyama was born in Tokyo， 1978. His portfolio was presented in Foam Magazine #20 / Talent issue. Recent exhibitions include Rainbow Waves (G/P gallery， 2013); Circulations (G/P+g3/ gallery， 2013); Daegu Photo Biennale 2012 (curated by Charlotte Cotton， Daegu， 2013) and Setouchi Triennale (Takamatsu， 2013). He was a recipient of Foam Magazine Talent Call 2009 award and the 15th Japan Media Arts Festival 2012 jury recommended prize. Since April 2014， he has been working as an artist-in-residence in London as part of the Program of Overseas Study for Upcoming Artists sponsored by the Japanese government Agency for Cultural Affairs.
横田大輔 Daisuke YOKOTA
1983年、埼玉県生まれ。日本写真芸術専門学校卒業。2008年、キャノン新世紀佳作、エプソンカラーイメージコンテスト写真部門 特選。2010年、第2回写真「1_WALL」展グランプリ。国内外での個展、グループ展のほか、Unseen Photo FairやParis Photoなど海外のアートフェアにも参加。2013年2月にG/P galleryにて個展「site / cloud」を開催、同名の写真集を出版。2013年9月にアムステルダムで開催されたUnseen Photo Fairにおいて「The Outset I Unseen Exhibition Fund」初の受賞者となり、2014年5月にはFoam美術館にて初の海外での個展が開催された。
Daisuke Yokota was born in Saitama， 1983. Graduated from Nippon Photography Institute in 2003. He is currently working as a member of an artist collective AM Projects， alongside the number of performance events in collaboration with GOLIGA BOOKS. Recent exhibitions include Site/Cloud (G/P gallery， Tokyo， 2013) and site/cloud (Foam Museum， Amsterdam， 2014).
川島崇志 Takashi KAWASHIMA
1985年、宮城県生まれ。東京工芸大学大学院修了。2011年、a.a.t.m(art award tokyo marunouchi)で審査員賞(後藤繁雄賞)を受賞。2012年のTOKYO FRONTLINE PHOTO AWARD ではグランプリを受賞する。2013年 4月にはG/P galleryで個展「新しい岸、女を巡る断片」を開催し、同名の写真集を出版。この写真集は「第18回文化庁メディア芸術祭」において審査員推薦作品に選出。主な個展に「描きかけの地誌 / 蒐集」(東京、G/P gallery、2015年)など。
Takeshi Kawashima was born in Miyagi， 1985. Graduated with MA photography degree from Tokyo Polytechnic University in 2011. He was a recipient of Juries prize at Art Award Tokyo Marunouchi (selected by Shigeo Goto， 2011) and Grand Prize at Tokyo Frontline Photo Award (2012). Recent exhibitions include a group show On the Flow (G/P + g3/ gallery， 2014) and New coast， and a fragment over a woman (G/P gallery， 2013) which its photo book was selected for Jury prize at Japan Media Arts Festival.
赤石隆明 Takaaki AKAISHI
1985年、静岡生まれ。東京造形大学大学院修了。額装写真やプリントを空間に配置するインスタレーション作品で、国内外問わず注目されている。2010年 キヤノン写真新世紀で佳作、2011年 TOKYO FRONTLINE PHOTO AWARD でグランプリを受賞。2012年、グループ展「漂流/on the flow」を川島崇志、横田大輔とともに開催。2013年、個展『UNBROKEN ROOM』をG/P galleryで開催し、同名の作品集も発行。
Takaaki Akaishi was born in Shizuoka， 1985. Graduated from Tokyo Zokei University with a Master degree. He focuses on a composition of exhibiting work and his unique style has been receiving attention in and outside Japan.
He was a recipient of honorable mention at Canon New Cosmos of Photography (2010) and the grand prize at TOKYO FRONTLINE PHOTO AWARD (2011). Recent exhibitions include a group show On the flow with his fellow photographers Takeshi Kawashima and Daisuke Yokota， and UNBROKEN ROOM (G/P gallery， 2013).
吉田和生 Kazuo YOSHIDA
1982年、兵庫県生まれ。滋賀県立大学卒業。2012年、「群馬青年ビエンナーレ」で大賞を受賞。主なグループ展に、 MP1 「拡張される網膜」(東京、G/P gallery、2012年) 、「Picturing Plants – 植物のイメージ」(群馬、群馬県立近代美術館、2013年)「写真の境界 -Boundaries of Photograph-」(横浜、横浜市民ギャラリーあざみ野、2014年)など。東日本大震災、それに伴う原発事故以降、福島県の森を中心に撮影された写真作品である『Air Blue』は「第16回文化庁メディア芸術祭」において審査員推薦作品に選出された。
Kazuo Yoshida was born in 1982， Hyogo. Recent exhibitions include Boundaries of Photograph (Yokohama Civic Art Gallery， Azamino， 2014); Picturing Plants (The Museum of Modern Art Gunma， 2013) and Expanded Retina (G/P gallery， Tokyo， 2012). He was a recipient of the grand prize of the 11th Gunma Biennale For Young Artists (2012) and the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival Jury Selections (2013).
藤本涼 Ryo FUJIMOTO
1984年、東京生まれ。東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科先端芸術表現専攻修了。2008年、「ART AWARD TOKYO 2008」木幡和枝賞受賞。主な個展に、「第5回shiseido art egg 藤本涼展 “かすみをたべて、幻視する。”」(資生堂ギャラリー、2011年)、「untouched flower」(G/P gallery、2014年)等。

Ryo Fujimoto was born in Tokyo， 1984. Guraduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2010. He was a recipient of Kazue Kobata prize at ART AWARD TOKYO 2008. Recent exhibitions include Eat a haze， see a vision (Shisseido gallery， 2011) and untouched flower (G/P gallery， 2014).
三田健志 Takeshi MITA
1979年、広島県生まれ。多摩美術大学大学院修了。主な個展に、「He climbs on the contour line」(STANDING PINE-cube、名古屋、2011年)、「On the contour line」(Gakei gimlet SAAS、京都、2012年)等。個人で発表を続けるほか、ユニット＜構想計画所＞としての活動も多く、近年の発表作に「疑存島」(COEXIST GALLERY、東京、 2014年)「Save as」(Impact – International Printmaking Conference、スコットランド、2013年)等がある。
Mita Takeshi was born in Hiroshima， 1979. Graduated from Tama Art University with a master degree. Recent exhibitions include He Climbs on the Contour Line (2011， STANDING PINE – Cube， Nagoya) and On the Contour Line (2012， Gakei gimlet SAAS， Kyoto). Alongside the solo project， he is also exhibiting works as a member of the artist collective “Kousou-keikakusho (Conception planning centre)” include Gizon-tou (Doubtful island) (COEXIST GALLERY， Tokyo)， Save as (Impact – International Printmaking Conference， 2013， Dundee)
山崎雄策 Yusaku YAMAZAKI
1984年、千葉県生まれ。
2014年、第10回写真「1_WALL」奨励賞、「TOKYO FRONTLINE PHOTO AWARD」準グランプリ、「キヤノン写真新世紀2014」優秀賞受賞。主な展示に、「キヤノン写真新世紀2014」(東京都写真美術館、2014年)等。

He was a recipient of Honorable Mention at the 10th 1_WALL Award (2014) and the second prize at TOKYO FRONTLINE PHOTO AWARD 2014. Recent exhibition includes New Cosmos of Photography 2014 (Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography， Tokyo).
田中和人 Kazuhito TANAKA
1973年、埼玉県生まれ。2004年School of Visual Arts(NY)卒業。抽象と具象の境界を追求し、写真を中心に制作している。
2011年TOKYO FRONTLINE PHOTO AWARD受賞。主な展示に、実行委員長を務めた「アブストラと12人の芸術家」(大同倉庫、2012年)、「田中和人個展(ZOO)」(Maki Fine Arts、2013年)等。

Kazuhito Tanaka was born in Saitama， 1973. Graduated from School of Visual Arts in New York. He explores the boundary between the concrete and the abstract with photography. Notable awards include TOKYO FRONTLINE AWARD 2011. Recent exhibitions include Her name is Abstrais (as an organizer， Daido warehouse， 2012) and ZOO (Maki Fine Arts， 2013).
滝沢広 Hiroshi TAKIZAWA
1983年、埼玉県生まれ。大学で心理学を専攻した後、写真を扱った作品の発表を続ける。膨大な年月をかけて経年変化してきた石や岩などのテクスチャーを素材として用い、物質とそれに伴うイメージの再構築を行う。
主な展示に、「SHOWCASE #2 CURATED BY MINORU SHIMIZU」(eNarts・2013年)、「figure」(Tokyo， 2014年)。

Hiroshi Takizawa was born in Saitama， 1983. After reading Psychology at the university， he has been exhibiting photography works. Using rocks and crags as medium， he reconstructs the image associated with particular materials.

小林健太 Kenta KOBAYASHI
1992年、神奈川県生まれ。
東京造形大学造形学部在学中。デジタル一眼レフ、フィルムカメラ、iphone、MacBookの内蔵カメラ、プリクラなど、様々なデバイスを用いて身の回りの生活を撮影する。主な展示に、「MEGA MAX GIGA GREAT ZERO ZILLION NEBULA NOVA」(TANA Gallerybookshelf、2013年)、「THE EXPOSED #7」(G/P+g³/gallery、2014年)。

Kenta Kobayashi was born in 1992， Kanagawa. Currently majoring in painting at Tokyo Zokei University. He documents his daily life with various recording devices such as digital single-lens reflex camera， film camera， iphone， webcam and photo booth. Recent exhibitions include MEGA MAX GIGA GREAT ZERO ZILLION NEBULA NOVA (TANA Gallery Bookshelf， 2013) and The EXPOSED #7 (G/P+g³/gallery， 2014).
