As an Island nation Japan has always found strength in its individuality and uniqueness. In troubled times the Japanese have always relied on their ability to draw from tradition and find strength within their coastline.
Ranging from the most traditional nihonga painting through to contemporary abstraction, ONWARD presents a window onto an art community that has momentarily turned its back on international art trends.
In Artrates Japan’s latest exhibition of young Japanese artists, a moment has been taken to LOOK AT FOCUS ON how some of Japan’s traditional art forms, techniques and themes have been reinvented by emerging young art makers.
This selection of painters, sculptors and mixed media Artists has insisted upon drawing inspiration, strength and stability from Japan’s remarkable art history ...
While maintaining the same level of technical skill as their historical counterparts, the artists drawn together for Inward have re-invented it to suit their craving for self expression rather than following in the tightly restricted footsteps of their predecessors technique.
