The word 'sustain' means to continue, maintain, or to support by giving you help , strength, or encouragement. So, by establishing the Sustainable Project Major, we mean to propose to the society by designing things that will help the society to become more stress-free; not giving unnecessary stress to human and nature, namely what we call a sustainable society. We also mean to bring about a new society that will sustain further into the future. Through design we hope to propose the realization of such society. That is the main aim of our Sustainable Projects.
Now the world is facing an unprecedented change by the speedy development of science and technology. There are, however, a number of problems arising such as: global deterioration of environment due to excess consumption of resources, the fear of losing diversity and the heritage of nature and cultures, and also the uneven distribution of wealth that causes tension between classes and living quarters. Such time of transformation and uncertainty is, nevertheless, a great chance for an evolution full of possibilities. In this sense, there has never been a better time than now for us, with the request of society, to present by designing, what cannot be seen into a visible concrete image through grasping this complex society from our overall view.
Sustainable Projects Major was established in response to such needs of the society. We are going to depict the future-to-be in our concrete project, making it a point not to stick to the previous social and economic outline, and to value the unrestricted ideas that jump out over the boundaries of specialized fields.
It is precisely the aim of Sustainable Projects to have our proposal for the sake of concrete and attractive design be valued and used in every site of social and industrial activity.
There are three fields of study in Sustainable Project. They do not exist individually, but they exist interacting with each other in a concrete project.
Here we propose a new social system through designing. The theme of this field is social systems like; local social structure, administration and industry, transportation and distribution, and energy. We draw a picture of such sustainable society as that in which basic conditions like health and safety of the citizen, and equality of convenience can be maintained without difficulty. After viewing how the society and the life of people changes with the application of new system, we come up with the proposal in the style of a concrete design.
Here we propose a new sense of value and life-style, through design. The theme of this field will be the changes in the sense of value in various aspects such as; changes of human relation in the communities and families, education and information, work and leisure, etc. We make numerous scenarios in order to approach a sustainable society, taking the cultural diversity as self- evident. In doing so, we try to propose life-styles in which you can obtain a stress-free and spiritually satisfactory life, through designing tools and system to support them.
Here we propose a new living environment through design. The themes in this field are; living environment and facilities of a city, housing and living, product and service, production and consumption, etc. Either in planning and developing the products for the purpose of environmental efficiency, or in planning of services that will induce consumption of sustainable products, we tackle with developing a comprehensive design that involves everything from technical assignments as to which material to use and what kind of function to be expected, to the anticipated quality of life. Our proposal ranges from anything that can be put into practice immediately, to far advanced ideas. We put them all into concrete designs.
