Looking back into the past, the history of painting has always been innovated by artists who have the passion and the sensitivity to explore a new way of expression. And it is their sensitivity and passion that have given birth to the expansion and the diverse development of the artistic expression. In thus diversified scene of art, that we have today, in order not to be helplessly influenced by the fashion or the craze of the days, it has become essential for an artist to have a reliable sight and a strong spirit that will assure you to have a deep self-insight and the power to square up to the complex time that we have today.
In the Painting Major, the individuality and the subjectivity of each student are respected more than anything else. And this stand point is carried on to the four Fields of Study; Image Expression, Concept Expression, Printing Expression and Wide Area Expression. From these four fields of studies, the students learn various types of expression technique and artistic conditions of today. Seeking for the new style of Zokei(art and design) and the potentials of artistic expression, each student identifies himself/herself as an expressionist of the time, and tries to establish his/her own world of expression.
Reflecting today's art expression from the aspect of 'CONCRETENESS OF MESSAGE', we study here the way of expression closely connected with the shape/image of things and incidents that happen in real life/phenomena of reality. And through each student's creation of art, we seek in today's world for the possibilities of expressions whose theme is concrete and realistic object.
Reflecting today's art expression form the aspect of 'CONCEPTS AND MATERIAL', we study here two things: one; the element of concept as to how to express the idea/philosophy contained in the work, and two; the element of material as to what kind of style, colors, form, material, etc. to use. And through each student's creation of art, we seek in today's world for the possibilities of expression, including how to bring into society/(to get public recognition) what is based on personal ideas.
Reflecting today's art expressionfrom the aspect of 'PRINTING' and 'PATTERN/(MOLDING/MODEL)' we study here the expression using indirect techniques such as printing and patterns. In addition to the traditional printing techniques like woodblock, etching and lithograph, we learn here the modern printing expression such as papiecole, or the introduction/application of printed matters and other materials into/onto painting. Furthermore, we also think photography, film and CG as contemporary method of printing expression. Using all these methods, we seek in today's world, the possibilities of indirect expression through the works of each student.
We study here the art from the aspect of 'COMMUNICATION WITH THE SOCIETY', reflecting today's circumstances where various ways and aspects, that expand from the conventional fixed field of expression, fuse together in harmony. In other words, we try to verify the art expression of today from the relationship among 'human', 'expression' and 'society'. Through the works of each student, we seek for the possibilities of effectiveness of our expression in social space, regarding how our proposal and project are understood in the society.
