Motivation
Openness for the new and uncommon, respect for the singularity of other cultures as well as the tolerance of dissenting opinions, are characteristics that play a significant role in professional practice. Therefore, my stay in Japan ment many personal and professional benefits to me. It enabled skills of design and linguistic as well as other qualifications that are asked for in times of a gradual global networking and increasingly internationalization at the same time. I wanted to enhance my horizon of social and design expertise in the field of communication and expand my capacity for teamwork. Over all, I considered my stay in Japan not only as an investment in the professional, but also in my personal training. The idea for my exchange semester in Japan was the result of my long-standing preoccupation with asian cultures.
Study
The study at Zokei University was the ideal choice for my professional training. In the japanese style of design I appreciate especially the core, the deeper meaning, which is almost more important than the actual surface. The study at TZU offers me many additional disciplines according to my study of Communication Design at the HfG Schwaebisch Gmuend.
I was especially interested in different classes and projects, because it is important to think beyond design and your own horizon. To explore new approaches in different areas of design was an objective of my stay at the Tokyo Zokei University, which should supplement my study at the HfG. That is the reason why I took the chance to choose from the wide range of courses. I took part in Professor Tamada`s CI-Class as well as in his Seminar. In addition to this theoretical and graphical content, I participated in Professor Kuriyama`s Space Design Class and also in Professor Hasegawa`s Architecture Course.
Reflection
I considered my stay in Japan as an enrichment for my life and as a collection of a wide spectrum of knowledge and sensory impressions. This was my goal, not only professionally but also on the human and cultural level. All my hopes have been excelled with the study at the Zokei University. I made many friends and contacts in this time and experienced actively the japanese daily life.
